Picked up the new game today and have played my first game in Franchise mode.
Few things about this year's game. Graphics are pretty good. There are some new features when tackling, as you can fight harder for yardage. Sometimes a pile up will occur between a runner a several tacklers, giving you a chance to try and battle the pack or they'll just gang tackle you. Pretty interesting to see that happen.
Injuries seem to happen a lot more frequently than I remember in past games, but there is a new option that I find particularly interesting. If a player isn't hurt terribly bad, the game gives you the option to have them play the game, even though hurt. This is real interesting, as sometimes a star player taking a bump can really effect how the game can turn out when all is said and done. You can risk having them play hurt to keep them in the game in an effort to try and win, but you also run the risk of that injury getting real serious too.
I don't know if it was just because I'm playing with a sub par team or what, but speed burst doesn't seem to give a ton of extra speed to a player. Very small amounts at best, but like I said, could be because the Bills are who I chose to play my Franchise with.
There is a real cool feature at halftime where they play a little bit of a highlight reel like you might see if you were watching a real football game. They go around the league, highlighting what other players are doing and show scores, stuff like that. They cover your game as well, saying like Devin Hester has 5 catches so far and they show individual game highlights as well. Very cool feature.
I'm used to playing on All-Pro difficulty, but the problem is that I really slaughter that setting and games just turn into how many points can I put up and how many times can I intercept the computer. There is such a drastic change between All Pro and All Madden, because I get stomped on All Madden.
So anyway... I'm going to make a concious effort to play on All Madden from now on and try to get my game up to where I can compete there without much trouble.
Played the first pre-season game against the Bears. I ain't braggin... but the comp was able to slap up 85 points against me. I think I had about 7 or 8 turnovers. It was pretty disgusting. Couple of critical fumbles by either my QB or backup RBs when I was driving was pretty frustrating. I've always had the problem when passing of holding onto the ball too long. This is because I'm able to do so more frequently on All Pro, but All Madden has a much sicker pass rush. So many of the passes I had where batted at the line and that also, was unbelievably frustrating.
New feature is that when you try make a pass with a guy up in your face is that the ball will go loose for only a few yards and under All Madden, their D-line picked up some big INTs, one of which went back for a pick 6. Many of my mishaps in this particular game were probably attributed to the lackluster Bills team and their sad excuse for an O-line, but whatever.
I was able to pick up a few pretty good plays though. I got hit with a big blitz and went to get rid of it quickly. Ended up hitting the wrong button, but it went to a wide open Lee Evans and he went to the house for a 70+ yard TD. Marshawn Lynch broke a big tackle at the line and he went to the house for 60+ yard TD run. I nearly broke a kickoff for about a 90 some yard return, but JUST missed making it by their last defender. Once again, probably because my return guy didn't have enough jets, but I had some pretty sick moves to give myself the chance.
My defense on All Madden blows rhino dick, so Cutler sliced me up pretty good. Hell, even their backup did a number on me. Best defensive stand I made was while they were in the red zone early in the game, I came up with 3 straight sacks and held them to a FG. As far as defense goes, that was about the only stand I put up against them, as they absolutely crushed me. Forte went down in the 1st quarter with a 4 week injury, but in comes Kevin Jones and he ran all over me.
I haven't checked out the whole game yet, just played one real quick and started the Franchise going, but overall.. I really like the game. I can tell already it's going to be a very long season, as I play the game on 10 min quarters and after this beatdown, I'm already anticipating having the #1 pick in the draft next season.
Oh well.. its the process you take in improving your game and I think it's about time that I take it to All Madden and learn how to beat it, as this is the 3rd Madden game I've bought in a row.
