Nightmare On Elm Street Remake

Okay so I am normally against remakes of horror movies from the 70s and 80s since I thought Halloween was boring, Friday the 13th sucked ass (now they are making another one and MMA Star Tim Silva has been cast to play Jason), Prom Night blew, Carrie was a joke and I could go on and on. Now they are doing Nightmare On Elm Street.

At first I thought, "Great, let's screw up another great horror flick from back in the day." Then I saw who they were casting as Freddy and I think this might actually work.

Jackie Earle Haley, from Watchmen but better remembered as Kelly Leak from the Bad News Bears will play Freddy. This works for me because in 2006 he played a registered sex offender in the movie Little Children. He played the role so well he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and won 7 other awards for the role. He just seems to fit for me.

Of course I get bored with all the new teenie bopper actors and actresses making their start in these movies or the one who rose to fame from some jackass UPN or CW show and now is trying to make it on the big screen, but again I think this might work. I also noticed in the trailer below, it looks as if they took the first two nightmare movies and put them together for this one.

Anyway, just thought I would add to the OOC Board and drop the trailer on you guys and see what you all think. Also added a video on Sylvia as Jason. Just an interview, not actual clips of the movie. Also on a side note, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is starring in the new A-Team Movie as he will be playing the same role that Mr. T made famous. Enjoy and have a good weekend.

Since the remake of Halloween was boring and the same of Friday the 13th sucked, maybe you didn't realize that they too are written on a basis of the first set of films in each series.

I would be interested in knowing how you think those two screwed up the originals.

I'm a fan. And if anything is "screwed up" it's the fact that Robert Englund isn't playing the part of Freddy Krueger. When I saw the trailer I wondered if Jackie Earle Haley was supposed to be a mentally handicapped Freddy. Hopefully, he doesn't disapoint me like Brent Kersh has Chris Freytag.

Okay, first off the Brent Kersh line was classic. That is my OOC Quote of the Week hands down.

Prom Night, Carrie, My Bloody Valentine and Friday the 13th in my opinion sucked. Just my opinion.

Halloween bored me. I think it was some changes to the script with things that were missing from the remake or things that were in the remake that I never saw in the first one. I enjoy Rob Zombie's take on things, it just didn't do much for me. I did however, enjoy the more in depth look into Michael's childhood. That to me was the best part of the movie.

I think what I am looking forward to with Jackie Earle Haley is the fact that Kruger was a sex offender and Jackie played that role so well in the movie Little Children. I am hoping that it goes more into who Freddy was when he was human. Just a hope on my part. He is not as intimidating as Englund was and no one will ever be better than he was.

As far as Englund reprising the role, I would have loved that, but at age 52 I don't know if it would have had the same effect for me. I am looking forward to the six new movies he does have in the works right now as I have been a fan of his since the TV Series "V."

I am a little disappointed to find out that Englund has no role what so ever in the new Nightmare On Elm Street. You would have thought they could have brought him back as one of the people that kill Freddie or something. Sad since it was him and him only that carried that string of movies. I don't care if it helped launch the career of Johnny Depp. Englund was the shit and that fucker gave me nightmares for weeks.

While having Englund in the movie for just a cameo would be great, my biggest thing is whether or not Wes Craven is working on it. To me, the best out of the original series were the first, third and New Nightmare and that was because they were all written and directed by Craven and showed his vision of Freddy. All the others, with the exception of the second movie, made Freddy a bad comedy act and were not scary at all. However I did still enjoy them as well as the "Freddy's Nightmare" TV series but I prefer my homicidal killers to be scary instead of a scabbed face freak with bad puns.
