A couple things about this. The pitcher has decent aim, he knew right where to throw it to hit the ump in the face.
I wonder if this move was thought up by the players or if the coaches had anything to do with it. I am willing to bet that they did.
It doesn't seem like they got enough punishment though.

From what I read in the article, the players took it upon themselves and the coach stood behind them when they said it was not on purpose. The catcher had, key word HAD, a scholarship to a college in Georgia, but the school told him "no thank you" after they saw the video of this. The school got a $1,000 fine and I think that was it. The umpore however does have a lawyer and is now going to sue for compensation. Bottom line, it was a haynous (I misspelled that word I am sure) act and the kids should have faced some kind of assault suit. Meanwhile, one of the kids that was involved in the plotting of the act was drafted by the MLB and I am sure he will cover costs for the other two.

I have to agree baseball used to be such a dirty game. Where did all of the high slides into third base go?

They knowingly set it up to throw at the umpires head. With a 90 mile an hour fastball you could have severe damage done. Just look at some of the hits to the faces guys have taken when it was just an accident. What would be the case if it had actually done some serious damage? What if it had been you that had taken the hit to the head because some snot-nose high schooler didnt like the way you called the game?
I know you Marcus and had that ball hit you in the face and the catcher had purposesly dropped down and let it hit you, you would have kicked both the catcher and the pitchers ass right there at home plate and then asked the coach and the rest of the team if they wanted a piece of you and if they didn't like the way you called a game they could kiss your black ass..
I do agree, I miss the high spikes on a slide, the running over a catcher like a bull if he is blocking the plate and other things, but this was borderline assault and it was pre-meditated. Umps piss me off at times too, but this was taking it to the extreme in my opinion.

put them in hospital... blah blah blah could have killed him... blah blah blah 100mph fast ball to the head... blah blah blh.
on the other foot.
If it was me, of course I would have picked a serious fight, then after all that is said and done, that would have been it.

You left out the part where you have to be bailed out of jail and then sentenced for beating up a child. Not to mention the fact that you would wear a "Scarlet Letter" the rest of your life and never be looked at the same way again.
Sorta like the assistant coach at Baylor that can not geta job coaching anymore and works a job just above minimum wage for all the crap that went down when that kid on their baskeball team was killed. Meanwhile, Dave Bliss, the true villian in it all, is coaching again in the CBA and everyone thought he was deserving of a second chance. That asshole gets off clean while the other guy is tainted for something he did not do and was really unaware until it all came out.
As Kingpin would say, "that is just the white man getting over on the black man again." Kingpin the character, not the handler mind you.

True, that is true. I have seen you turn a lot of crappy situations into some fun.
