So this board has been dead over the past few days...
Thought I might throw a question out there. It will probably die as quickly as all my other threads did but here goes:
What do you guys know/think about Australia?
We became a little buddy to you guys post 9-11 and we've given you the "marvelous" acting talents of Cate Blanchett and Sookie's brother from True Blood and numerous others I can't remember.
Does our country even register to you guys? I suspect not but surely there's something, SOMETHING you can say about this land of mine?
Go on. I don't even care if it's racist. Let's get this board moving!

Crocodile Dundee is the greatest Australian of all time.
Australia is one of those countries that has a unique history. The whole "colony started by convicts" is very interesting.
I have always wanted to visit, but doubt that will ever happen.

When I hear the company I think Land Down Under, Kangaroos, and Fosters lol.
Actually for me Australia is a lot more, mostly because I am a history/geography guy since that is one of the subjects that I teach.
However, it has never really stuck out as a place that I am eager to rush and visit. I guess I can say that about a lot of other countries to since really I just want to go see Italy and all my heritage before I look to seeing other countries.

I was stationed in Perth for a short time while serving in the US Navy so Australia has always held a special place for me as does Antarctica (since I was stationed there as well). There are several other great actors and actresses from there and let us not forget the greatness of Men At Work. Without them, the 80s would have been a little less brighter.

Hmmm Aussie Aussie Aussie OI OI OI!!!!! While I'm not exactly an expert on OZ, I seriously would love to visit some day. I know Sydney is not the only city in OZ, but its the one I want to visit. I would love to see the Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House as well as visit the country. Nicole Kidman HELLO? ? Hugh Jackman?? bit bigger actors/actresses than Cate and the vampire chick Croc Dundee rocks too. "Thats not a knife, THIS is a knife"

Yeah, forgot Jackman. He's probably the best representative we have. Nicole Kidman's face has been pierced by too much silicon.
Anybody who wants to come here:
A) Check out Sydney first and leave IMMEDIATELY. See the sights and come to Melbourne. There's no "attractions" but every night there's at least one great band playing. It is (and I say this having experienced other regions) THE best live music city in the world. Glasgow maybe first but you've got slightly less chance of getting knifed in Melbourne.
B) FOOD. Every strip of our city and surrounding areas is loaded with international cuisine that is amazing.
C) We're not responsible for Russel Crowe! That's New Zealand's fault!

Melbourne is outstanding.
Don't forget Hugo Weaving, the guy that played the Agent Smith in Matrix and Elrond, the King of the Elves in Lord of the Rings. He was born in Nigeria, but spent a lot of his childhood in Australia and I believe still lives there today. He is also in the upcoming movies, The Hobbit and The Wolfman
Australia, especially in Perth, seems to continue a sporting event I have not seen in ages. That is the game of Netball, which bases its rule loosely from basketball. Man I hadn't seen that sports since the 70s and it blew my mind the first time I ran across it in Perth.

I would love to visit BUT
1. Everything there can kill you (wildlife)
2. Don't know much about the culture (Food and such)
3.Don't think there are many black people there. It would be uncomfortable like walking into a bar filled for black people, except not really because it is an entire country.
4. I couldn't tell you the first thing about the place. I only know it would be fun as fuck to stay a while in the outback camping and relaxing on a lake.

Ray.....ever heard of the Abrogines (correct my spelling please Jamie lol) I recall there were quite a few black people on the Aussie teams for track and field and such at the Olympics.
Animals wont kill you if you don't do something stupid like say....walk up to a Kangaroo and try to fuck with it. (not literally but hey that would piss them off too)
From what I hear, the food is amazing down under, I'd love to try some of their local culinary delights.
Have you seen Aussie women? Check the Minogue sisters, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, etc etc etc theres a lot of HOT Aussies out there. I've always said that some of the hottest women alive are from Australia.
Oh yeah one more thing....I know I'm going to get called a fag for this.....but SAVAGE GARDEN. Best Aussie Band ever (my opinion)

I would love to visit BUT 1. Everything there can kill you (wildlife) 2. Don't know much about the culture (Food and such) 3.Don't think there are many black people there. It would be uncomfortable like walking into a bar filled for black people, except not really because it is an entire country. 1. Oh, don't be a pussy. Sure, in the North End there's a lot of Crocodiles, and Syndey is full of venomous spiders and Melbourne has a few smaller venomous spiders and the bush is full of poisonous snakes but we all survive! Just don't go poking at things with sticks. Or drunkenly running around the bush thinking you can wrestle snakes/crocodiles. 2. We have no culture really. Our outback towns are like your smaller towns: well-enough meaning folk who are usually slightly racist alcoholics. Foodwise, we're good. Not even so much our own food but we seem to (at least in Melbourne) just collect a stupid amount of restaurants representing every nation's cuisine. I live right on the tip of what some people call "Vietnam Street" and it's awesome. Cheap, cheap great food. 3. Though our country does have an undercurrent of racism to it (no worse than the US or England though) we are hugely multicultural. As I alluded to above, the area I live in is full of Vietnamese people, other areas full of other nationalities (I make it sound like they're all segregated! They're not I swear!) It's very rare that you'll be walking down a street and not see most nationalities (or continents, at least) represented. Not many many black people but nobody sensible would give a shit what colour you are. Unless you were, like, green or something. One other special Melbourne trait: our weather. It's fucking schizophrenic. I was just sat outside at a pub, sun shining. Then it rained for 30 seconds. Then the sun came back. Ten minutes later was a 2 minute hail storm. Ten minutes later, the sun is out again. Ridiculous.
